This Vans x Mami Wata collection is inspired by African surf culture, important historical cultural events and the power and positivity of surfing. This new footwear and apparel collection uses the iconic, bold and graphic imagery of cultural events, such as the 1974 'Rumble in the Jungle' in Zaire and 'Festac'77' in Nigeria, combined with our classic checkerboard prints for a modern Vans twist. The collection combines these bold details with a contrasting micro-checkerboard print to pay homage to the past while giving a vibrant nod to future generations supporting African surf culture.
The Mami Wata Style 36 Decon VR3 SF combines bold design with our surf-based sidestrip shoe. This classic low model features a 50% organic cotton canvas and suede upper that merges modern and vintage. It offers more comfort, thanks to our VR3Cush™ organic foam footbed and a new VR3Waffle™ outsole.
Our team has set ambitious sustainability goals. Every effort, small or large, is already contributing to positive change. To earn the VR3 Checkerboard Globe logo, at least 30% of the product must consist of one or more recycled, renewable and/or regenerative materials.
